Overview
FormaPauper is designed with a privacy-first architecture. We built this platform for pro se litigants who may be dealing with sensitive legal matters. Protecting your case information is a fundamental design goal, not an afterthought.
What Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Text you enter into the document wizard, intake forms, or Guardian chat
- Files you upload to the Exhibit Vault (stored via secure cloud upload)
- Theme and display preferences (stored locally in your browser)
Automatically Collected
- Anonymous session identifiers (random UUIDs — no name or email)
- Aggregated usage events (e.g., "document generated") — anonymized, no PII
- Standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, page accessed)
Local Storage and Browser Data
Form data, case information, and preferences are stored in your browser's localStorage. This data stays on your device. We do not transmit your case facts, party names, or legal details to our servers except when you explicitly use an AI feature (document generation, Guardian Q&A, exhibit analysis), at which point your input is sent to the AI provider to generate a response.
AI Features and Data Processing
When you use AI features (motion generation, Guardian chat, exhibit tagging), your input is transmitted to an AI language model provider for processing. We do not store AI conversations on our servers beyond what is necessary for the session. Do not enter Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, or other highly sensitive personal identifiers into the AI features.
We Do Not Sell Your Data
FormaPauper does not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We do not use your data to build advertising profiles.
Analytics
We collect anonymized, aggregated usage analytics to understand how the platform is used and improve it. Analytics events are never linked to your name, email, or case information. We collect metrics such as: document types generated, county distribution, and feature usage rates.
Cookies
FormaPauper uses functional cookies necessary for the platform to operate (e.g., session management). We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You may disable cookies in your browser, but some features may not function correctly.
Your Rights
You may clear all locally stored data at any time by clearing your browser's localStorage for this site. Uploaded files can be deleted from the Exhibit Vault within the application.
ChatGPT Action API & Automated Document Processing
FormaPauper exposes a public API endpoint (/functions/chatgptDraftMotion) that allows AI assistants like ChatGPT to generate formatted court motion documents on behalf of users. When this API is called, the request payload (jurisdiction, county, motion type, statement of facts, and relief requested) is processed transiently to produce the formatted document.
We do not persist or store request payloads or generated output from API calls. No case data, party names, or factual statements submitted through the API are saved to our database. The document is generated in memory, returned to the caller, and discarded. Rate limiting is applied to prevent abuse. No API key is required for ChatGPT Action usage.
Documents generated through the API are not legal advice and do not create an attorney-client relationship. They are automated procedural documents for pro se litigants. New York content is verified against official sources but is not attorney-reviewed. Always verify generated documents with official court forms before filing.
